After days of driving through looming forest, muddy bogs and rolling fields, the seemingly ever extending countryside roads finally reaches a wide basin. Miles away, an imposing and towering hill with a town on top.

11 June : The relief mining crew fidgeted in their chairs, “I thought the 2 weeks prior to launch was our family time. What gives?” Director Murphy of Houston Mission Control calls the meeting to order, “Yesterday, we lost contact with the Shackleton moonbase. A low-level pass by our observation satellite revealed the pressure domes appear to be undamaged and still with power. However, we have not observed movement of the harvesters nor suited members performing activities outside the domes. While hoping this only a temporary technical malfunction, we’ve decided to accelerate your launch. You will launch in 2 days. I know that only gives you 2 days of sunlight on the moon before rotational darkness. Unless you have any questions…”

Yet Carol continues to search as the others checkout the storied bonfire. An 8 ft ring of burnt wood and the remains of what must have been those ‘Devil Lanterns.’ Fused glass with now blacken rough coating. And a few flecks of the familiar white powder found in Duncan’s basement. And that’s when Carol’s scream draws Arthur and Jonah toward her cabin. The quick flash of something small rushing across the steps. The ear-shattering blast of the elephant gun. The 3-inch hole in the porch lined with tuffs

Awkward pause as she gathers her words, “Professor Duncan? He’s not in right now. Sabbatical. Actually, off campus. I’m not at liberty to say; perhaps you’ll want to talk with his boss, professor Krister? His office is down the hall room 109 but he’s probably at lunch right now in the lounge with the other engineering staff.” [Spot Hidden] Arthur happens to read the staff directory noting Duncan’s office listed as room 113. They proceed down the empty hall pausing to knock then check Krister’s door. No answer and locked. They continue down the hall. While Arthur, Carol, and Herbert pause in front of room 113 to knock and jiggle the hand
